Intel Xeon 5300 series Embedded Processor

Intel has launched quad core Xeon 5300 series processor with extended life cycle support. The embedded processors provides energy-efficiency for compute-intensive embedded, storage and communications platforms. Based on 65nm technology, it’s available with up to 8 computing cores. Coming in 2.0/ 2.3 GHz speed with 8 MB of L2 cache per processor, it features Intel Virtualization Technology and Intel I/O Acceleration Technology.

Intel Nehalem and Penryn processors

Intel has shelled out some more information about it’s 45nm Penryn processor and Nehalem chip with integrated memory controller. Intel is following AMD’s trajectory by departing from the traditional front side bus and integrating memory controller into the CPU. The 45nm Nehalem - a replacement of Core-based products, comes with up to eight cores and a “highly integrated” memory controller Nehalem system interconnect that provides increased performance. By the way, it also sports an integrated graphics, just like AMD’s Fusion processor. The Penryn series comes with 6MB L2 cache in dual core and up to 12 MB in quad-core versions.

New Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme chips to come sooner than Expected

According to the latest roadmap for Intel coming out of Asia, you can expect Intel to refresh its line of quad-core Core 2 Extreme in Q3 of this year.

The new chip is the 2.93GHz QX6800, which will run on an 1066MHz frontside bus and contain 4MB of L2 cache, according to a story on Chinese-language site HKEPC. It will be priced, like the current model QX6700, at $999 when sold in batches of 1000 processors.

Intel introduces Low-Power Quad-core Server Processors

Intel has launched low power version of it’s quad core Xeon server chips. The new processors which will be unveiled are “Clovertown” L5320 and L5310 Xeon operating at 1.86GHz and 1.6GHz respectively.

The 50W chips includes an 8MB cache. These processors consumes about 35 to 60 per cent less power compared to Intel’s existing 80-watt and 120-watt quad-core processors.
