Bluetooth headset for Sony PS3

Sony unveiled its PlayStation 3 Bluetooth headset. The headset works with any game that supports voice chat on the console and includes extra features including a mute button to prevent unintentional noise outside of normal use and a USB charging cradle to power the headset either from the PS3 or a computer.

Sony PS3 Movie Download Service Coming this Summer

Sony has released an update to its corporate strategy through 2010. It talks about initiatives to move Sony from recovery to the leading global provider of networked consumer electronics and entertainment.  Sony will have a movie download service available to US PlayStation 3 owners this summer.

Japan and Europe will have to wait until later. More details should be coming up, probably at E3.  Sony expects it to be profitable by March 2009.

DivX Technology for PS3 Games Now Available

DivX announced that it is now offering its video encoding technology to PS3 game developers allowing them to create high quality video for PS3 games. According to DivX the new technology will allow for games with better video embedded.

Game developers can take advantage of DivX compression and maintain high-quality video. DivX says that the PS3 is the first console capable of playing DivX videos. Let’s hope this doesn’t mean longer cut scenes in our games.

New Sony PS3 Firmware 2.35

Sony released new PS3 firmware 2.35. The release notes of firmware 2.35 resolves PS3 software standards, work to improve stability. This firmware update is not fixing anything related to the GTA IV issue some gamers on older PS3 consoles experience. A comment on the Playstation blog indicates that Sony Customer support has a solution for the GTA IV problem.

Sony announces Release Date for PlayTV

Sony has announced the release dates for its long-awaited PlayTV add-on for the PS3 and Go!View video service for the PSP. PlayTV will allow the PS3 hard drive to record TV shows with its dual TV tuners. The included software has a 7-day programming guide, and recorded programs can be viewed remotely over Wi-Fi or transferred to the PSP.
