Samsung to Release new TV with built-in DivX Video Playback

DivX has announced a new multi-year agreement with Samsung to include DivX video playback in a new line of Samsung television sets. These DivX-certified Samsung television sets will come out in early 2009 and will play back DivX encoded video files via USB slots or via an Ethernet connection certified by DLNA. Samsung now has a number of DivX certified devices including DVD players and mobile phones.

Nintendo Plans to launch New DS

Nintendo has plans to launch a new version of the popular Nintendo DS handheld game console by the end of this year. The new model, yet to be named, will feature a camera and music player, putting itself in competition with a larger number of portable devices and opening up a whole new game possibilities.

This news was not released from Nintendo, or at least not yet. It does however come from the Sunday edition of The Nikkei Business Daily, which is a well renowned newspaper in Japan. The new DS from Nintendo is expected to cost around $190 in Japan compared to the $158 on the current DS. The DS goes for $129 currently in the United States.

SD Card Association announces Embedded SD

SD Card Association announced a new standard for Embedded SD storage. The new standard would allow manufacturers to embed SD memory inside devices like cameras, phones and MP3 players. The new specification allows makers to build devices that have internal and external storage using the same specifications.

Zpower, a provider of silver-zinc battery technology, announced the inclusion of their silver-zinc cells in a major notebook computer in 2009. Zpower claims their batteries have run-times up to 40 percent longer than comparable Lithium-ion cells, while simultaneously offering safety and environmental advantages.

Apple Retail Store Goes Down Under



Apple’s first retail store in Australia will open on George Street in Sydney on Thursday, 19 June at 5:00 p.m. Located in the heart of the city’s shopping district, the Apple Store Sydney features two floors dedicated to Macs and iPods and a third floor entirely dedicated to service, including the world’s largest Genius Bar for free advice and personal training through Apple’s popular One to One membership.
