Creative has unveiled a touchscreen Zii Egg. The built-in Plaszma operating system is Linux-based and therefore open-source, letting companies or end users add software, change features or even replace the OS; the device is ready to use Google’s Android almost out of the box.

Creative’s first touchscreen media device has been revealed today through an FCC filing. Just called the Zii, the player is only shown in outline but already reveals some of its key selling points. The name suggests it will be based on the dual-core Zii processor, and an “HD camera” logo near an appropriate port suggests the device will have that level of video capture and playback support. Creative announced in Japan its ZEN MX – a stripped down version of the original ZEN. The ZEN MX removes support for AAC audio files, leaving with just MP3 and WMA. It also only play videos in .CMV format.
